This privacy policy applies to the Forage app (“Application”) for mobile devices and to the website foragewildfood.app, created by Kevin Baur (the “Service Provider”) as a commercial service. The service is provided “AS IS”.
The Application does not require you to create an account or register. Your personal foraging data — such as your watchlist, saved finds and notes — is stored locally on your device.
To show you which wild plants, berries, nuts and mushrooms are in season near you, and to notify you when a species on your watchlist comes into season, the Application uses your device's location. Your coordinates are sent to our own backend (hosted on Supabase), which calculates the local season from weather, elevation and species-occurrence data. You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; without it, the Application falls back to a coarser, region-based calendar.
RevenueCat, a third-party service, manages in-app purchases and subscriptions and may collect “a randomly generated anonymous user identifier, purchase history, and subscription status.” No identifiable details such as your name or email address are transferred to RevenueCat. Optional purchases may include subscriptions and one-time purchases. The Apple App Store or Google Play Store processes all transactions. The Service Provider neither collects nor retains payment information — the respective platforms handle billing under their own policies.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play settings. A free trial may be offered; no charges apply during the trial, and a subscription activates automatically afterwards unless cancelled.
Yes, with your permission. Your exact coordinates are sent to our own backend to compute what is in season around you and to trigger in-season notifications. This data is used only for that purpose — it is not sold, and is not used for advertising or profiling. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings.
RevenueCat receives anonymous identifiers and purchase data solely for subscription validation.
To obtain weather and elevation for your area, our backend contacts Open-Meteo. Before that request, your location is rounded to an approximate grid cell of about 28 km, so Open-Meteo only ever receives a coarse area, never your exact position. Elevation is returned within the same weather response; there is no separate elevation or geocoding provider.
No other third parties have access to data generated through the Application.
The website foragewildfood.app uses DataFast, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool. It does not use cookies, does not track you across websites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. No cookie-consent banner is required.
You can stop all collection of information by uninstalling the Application using the standard process for your device. You can also revoke location access in your device settings, and cancel any active subscription through the App Store or Google Play.
The Application does not knowingly solicit data from, or market to, children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. Users must be at least 16 to consent to the processing of personal data (in some jurisdictions a parent or guardian may consent on their behalf). The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Your foraging data — watchlist, saved finds and notes — is stored locally on your device. Location sent to our backend is used only to compute your local season and to fetch weather, and is transmitted over an encrypted connection. Purchase data is protected by RevenueCat under their security standards.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes by updating this page. Continued use of the Application or website is regarded as acceptance of those changes.
By using the Application or the website, you consent to the processing of your information as set out in this privacy policy.
